Madison firefighter charged with DUI
A Madison firefighter is scheduled to appear in court next week to face a driving under the influence charge after he drove a fire truck to an emergency call early Saturday morning.

River of Life will offer food distribution through Feeding S.D.

A new food distribution program has been started by River of Life Christian Fellowship, which will also be the home for the Healing Rooms. The Madison church has started Handfuls on Purpose, a program name that is based on Ruth 2:16. Jeff Reuter, one of the four pastors at the church said the goal of the program is to meet the needs of struggling families within the community and supplement the efforts of the Lake County Food Pantry.

MHS staffer diagnosed with meningitis

The principal at Madison High School announced on Tuesday that a staff member from the high school was diagnosed during the Labor Day weekend with viral meningitis. Principal Sharon Knowlton issued a press release that said school district personnel would take steps to prevent any additional cases of the disease.

East River Electric Power Cooperative's 60th annual meeting, titled "Cooperatives Delivering Value in a New Era," will take place Wednesday beginning at 9:45 a.m. in the Rushmore Room of the Best Western Ramkota Inn in Sioux Falls. REC at DSU begins work with launch of HealthPOINT site

Dakota State University's Center for the Advancement of Health Information Technology officially launched the beginning of its work at a Regional Extension Center with the activation of its website HealthPOINT (www.healthpoint.dsu.edu). The Regional Extension Center program is a national program launched to facilitate the implementation of electronic health records. A total of 60 RECs were created across the country. DSU's Center for the Advancement of Health Information Technology has the only one in South Dakota. "It's a large-scale effort," said Director Dan Friedrich.

Lakes Community road district gets approval

The formation of a road district around The Lakes Community Golf Course was approved Tuesday. Lake County Auditor Kay Schmidt said that 58 out of 103 registered voters cast ballots in the election, with 43 in favor and 15 against the measure.
