Anderson wins extraordinary Shrine honors

During the last several years, Anderson has won awards for his tramp character that he portrays in Shriner clown competitions. It's taken him a number of years to collect all of the clothing and other items that he uses for a costume.

Oldham completes Horizons II program

The Oldham community is making strides toward reducing poverty. Oldham was one of 21 South Dakota communities that completed Horizons II, a program which took towns with populations of less than 5,000 and poverty levels above 10 percent and gave community members direction on how they could fight poverty locally. According to the 2000 Census, Oldham's population is 206. An estimated 12.5 percent of local families and 20.3 percent of individuals are considered below the poverty level. Oldham Mayor Roger Eide said that poverty is measured by more than just income. It also includes the amount of quality, affordable housing that's available and the amenities available in a community; those amenities in Oldham have dwindled during the past few years.

Camp Invention begins next week
